Shoreditch and East London Gaybars

Shoreditch and East London Gaybars

It’s completely different in Shoreditch. The number of local gay bars and pubs in east London is significantly decreasing.

Times ago the where popular and secrets gaybars like The London Apprentice (later become ping pong bar in 2012), the LA (famous in the 1970s and 80s for celebrity patrons such as Jean-Paul Gautier, Marc Almond, Lily Savage, Sir Ian McKellen, and Freddie Mercury).

Now residents who want to go to to a gayvenue are increasingly having to go to central London to find gaybars.

Before ,there were five gay bars in the borough with the London Apprentice on Old Street, Joiner’s Arms (Tower Hamlets) ,

the Kings Arms (Kingsland High Street), the Mildmay and the Duke of Wellington ( Ballspond Road )

and the Bull and Pump (Shoreditch High Street). The most recent bar to shut down was Oak Bar (lesbian and gay bar in Stoke Newington closed 2013).

Today the only established and visited gay bar is Dalston Superstore ( Kingsland High Street) where you have cocktails and food, stay for the disco and drag shows.

Dalston Superstore has many parties in the week and weekends.

But in East-London there's a visible decline in local gaybars. In other parts of London (except SOHO) the local gaybars and pubs is also significantly decreasing or have problems to stay open.
