WorldPride 2026 AMSTERDAM

WorldPride Amsterdam takes place from 25 July to 8 August 2026! WorldPride centred on UNITY

For the first time in history Amsterdam will host WorldPride. WorldPride is a global event promoting international visibility and awareness of LGBTQIA+ issues.
Amsterdam, home to more than 180 nationalities, is one of the world’s most diverse cities. Our strong and vibrant LGBTQIA+ community gives the city a unique atmosphere of freedom, creativity and tolerance.
In 2001 the very first same-sex marriage took place here. In 2026 we celebrate 25 years of marriage equality — a milestone that is still not a given worldwide.
Multiple anniversaries in 2026:

- 10 years Pride Business Club
- 15 years Declaration of Amsterdam
- 20 years Workplace Pride
- 25 years Opening of Civil Marriage
- 30 years Pride Amsterdam
- 55 years abolition of Article 248bis
- 80 years COC Netherlands

Canal Pride : Saturday 1 August

There will be many Visitors on the quay.
To make space for the many visitors on the quay, the area will be made car-free and a parking ban will be in effect on Saturday 1 August from 00:00 to 23:59. .
No more music on the side To improve the event experience and further reduce noise in the surrounding area, amplified sound from moored boats and from shore along the route has been prohibited since 2019.
Pride Amsterdam since 1996:
What began in 1996 as a party to attract more LGBTQIA+ visitors to the city in summer has grown into a nine-day festival and one of the largest and most beautiful celebrations worldwide. The city becomes a rainbow of events, with more than 300 activities.

Article 248bis: The abolition of Article 248bis in 1971 was a crucial milestone in the Dutch gay emancipation, putting an end to the unequal treatment of homosexual contacts in the Penal Code. The article, introduced in 1911, punished sex between adults (then 21+) and same-sex minors. In the Netherlands, the legal age of sexual majority is currently 16. From this age onwards, you may engage in sexual acts with others, provided this is done voluntarily (i.e., with consent). In practice, however, 18 is generally taken as the age of majority.
