The Black Cap venue is closed (incl. update)

London. As in previous reports, the London Gay Scene is struggling to keep open their venues for the big money. A Said day in London .London's oldest and most iconic gay venue, The Black Cap, has closed its doors after almost 300 years.

The owners closed the venue after several renovation nightmares by Camden Council. The Black Cap was one of Londonís best gay pubs and drag venues.

This venue played a crucial part in LGBTQ history in London and remains an iconic performance venue. The Cap is widely supported in the community and is a place where people can come together to feel safe and supported. But Camden Council thought otherwise.

The motto of The Black Cap was 'Just Be Fabulous'

The old owners call upon the new owners of the Black Cap to reopen the venue as soon as possible, and return all its values -as an LGBTQ cabaret and performance venue, pub, meeting place and safe space for all kind of people.

There was a huge amount of support on social media . A protest was held outside the venue this past Saturday 18 apr. in Camden town.

The now closed venue received a colourful, defiant protest as they fight to re-open this famous venue for in LGBTQ history in London : An Iconic Performance Venue.

UPDATE: The Black Cap has had its Asset of Community Value status upheld by Camden council. The decision severely limits the ability of any new owner to use the space as anything other than an LGBT venue in future. While the councilís decision will not necessarily lead to the venue reopening, it is seen as a step in the right direction for a new LGBT venue or reopening of The Black Cap.
