German parliament approved the marriage gay marriage in Germany
The German parliament approved the marriage on Friday 30/06, with 393 votes YES (three left parties and number of party members CDU) and 226 votes NO . German Chancellor Merkel voted NO.
Chancellor Angela Merkel, who declared that marriage to her was "a marriage between a man and a woman".
German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Monday 26 June, softened for the first time her opposition to gay marriage, as her conservative party CDU / CSU comes under growing pressure on the issue ahead of elections in September.
Merkel Said this ona meeting in Berlin , just a month before the Gay Pride in Berlin in July. The Bavarian Christian Social Union (CSU) which strongly backs the concept of traditional and was strong against gay marriage.
It was allways a big theme on Gay Prides to have a legal Gay marriage In Germany. With the opposition of CSU in Bavaria and the Gay PrideIn München next month , it will give big political attention. Merkel, who had repeatedly voiced her opposition to gay marriage, said that lawmakers could now vote YES. How CSU will reactis unkown .
This is a significant shift for Merkel, who in 2013 said she opposed same-sex unions for “the well-being of children.”
Germany introduced civil unions for gay and lesbian couples in 2001, but they do not have the right to marry.
